Richmond RCMP Launches 2026 Youth Academy for Aspiring Officers
The Richmond RCMP is inviting students in Grades 10 to 12 to apply for the 2026 Youth Academy, a six-day immersive program aimed at those interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or related fields. Scheduled from August 10 to 15, 2026, at a local secondary school, this initiative provides students with a firsthand experience of the realities of police work.
Participants will engage in various activities designed to cultivate essential skills. The program includes hands-on training in police duties and an overview of the criminal justice system in Canada. Students will develop teamwork, public speaking, and self-discipline through physical fitness drills, tactical training, and scenario-based exercises. They will also have the opportunity to be mentored by experienced police officers.
Program Details and Opportunities
The Richmond RCMP Youth Academy will feature instruction from various specialty units, including police instructors, fitness coordinators, Police Dog Services, and Forensic Identification. Under the guidance of Richmond RCMP officers, participants will not only learn about law enforcement but will also acquire valuable life skills such as self-confidence, discipline, and respect.
Constable Das Dhillon, the program’s lead and a Youth Liaison Officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “The Youth Academy is an amazing opportunity for students to connect directly with officers and develop some of these skills early on,” he stated. Graduates of the program have gone on to become volunteers with the Richmond RCMP, while others are actively pursuing careers as officers.
Students interested in applying can obtain an application package from their school’s Career Information Advisor, access it online via the Richmond School District website, or contact the RCMP at [email protected]. The application deadline is April 7, 2026, at 16:00.
Application Process and Costs
As the program is competitive, successful candidates will be selected through a process that includes a background check, fitness assessment, and interview. The cost to attend the Youth Academy is $200, which covers meals, uniforms, and training materials. Financial assistance is available for students who demonstrate need.
The Youth Academy was developed in 2022 by two Richmond RCMP School Liaison Officers and has been hosted annually by the Richmond RCMP Youth Section, thanks to the collaboration of officers, employees, volunteers, the Richmond School District, and the City of Richmond.
For further information, interested students can reach out via email, consult their school’s Career Information Advisor, or visit the Richmond School District website for additional details, including applications, photos, and a promotional video.
