The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) has confirmed its leadership for the 2025-2026 academic year, electing Leo Boland as chair and Roger Clarke as vice-chair during a meeting on November 25, 2024. Boland, who represents the City of Pembroke, and Clarke, representing Whitewater Region and Admaston Bromley, will guide the board as it embarks on implementing a new long-term strategic plan.

Commitment to Student Success and Equity

Following the election, Boland expressed his dedication to the Board’s ongoing mission. “It is an honour to accept this leadership role and continue the vital work alongside Vice-Chair Clarke and our fellow trustees,” he stated. Boland highlighted the Board’s commitment to enhancing student achievement, equity, and overall well-being across Renfrew County. He noted, “We look forward to implementing local priorities through our new strategic plan from 2026 to 2030 and ensuring every RCDSB student has the opportunity to succeed.”

Clarke shared similar sentiments, emphasizing collaboration. “I am eager to contribute to the success of our schools in this new capacity. I look forward to collaborating closely with Chair Boland and the board as we navigate the possibilities and challenges ahead, always maintaining our shared commitment to outstanding education.”

Board Composition and Student Representation

The RCDSB Board of Trustees consists of eight publicly elected members, alongside two student trustees and a currently vacant Algonquin Trustee position. This composition ensures that various community perspectives and student voices are represented in decision-making processes. Among the student representatives are Sydney Dougherty from Arnprior District High School and Bronwynn Dick, a student from Opeongo High School, who is beginning her first year in this role.

As mandated by the Education Act, the trustees focus on student achievement, equity, and well-being. They serve as a crucial link between the RCDSB’s communities and its schools, ensuring that policies reflect the diverse needs of all students. The election of Boland and Clarke signifies a pivotal moment for the RCDSB, as they aim to navigate the educational landscape with a renewed focus on inclusivity and excellence.
