Regina Gears Up for Exciting Labour Day Weekend Events
As Labour Day weekend approaches, Regina is set to host an array of exciting events that cater to both sports enthusiasts and families looking to enjoy the last days of summer. The weekend features activities ranging from the much-anticipated Labour Day Classic football game to vibrant cultural festivals, ensuring there is something for everyone in the Queen City.
Fan Engagement at Rider Fan Day
On Saturday, August 30, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are hosting their annual Rider Fan Day at Mosaic Stadium. Fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite players and participate in various activities. Gates open at 10:00 a.m., with a walk-through starting at 10:30 a.m. The field will welcome the public around 11:30 a.m. and will feature a family fun zone, appearances by Gainer the Gopher, the Rider pep band, and the Rider cheer team.
Fans can look forward to a one-hour autograph session with players and coaches, contingent upon their availability. Although the primary activities conclude at 14:00, a RiderFit fitness class hosted by GoodLife Fitness is scheduled from 16:00 to 17:00.
Cultural Celebrations and Markets
For those seeking a different kind of entertainment, the Summer’s End Outdoor Market is taking place on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. Hosted by Local Market YQR at 1377 Hamilton Street, this family-friendly event will transform the street into a vibrant shopping experience featuring local artisans and businesses. Attendees can enjoy various activities, including dance workshops, children’s entertainment, and a selection of food options.
Additionally, the Taste of the Philippines food festival will run from 10:00 on Saturday until 23:00 on Sunday. This free event offers a taste of authentic Filipino cuisine from local food trucks and vendors. Beyond the food, visitors can explore handmade goods and crafts while enjoying live music, cultural dance performances, and a vibrant parade.
The Saskatchewan Cup BMX Grands and Championships will also occur on Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 to 15:00 at the 13th Ave BMX Club. Races are set to begin at 11:00, with entry free for spectators. Organizers expect between 90 to 125 races featuring competitors aged five to over fifty in various skill categories. The event will also include 50/50 tickets, raffle tables, and food options for attendees.
Families can join in the fun at the Regina Public Library’s Sherwood Village Branch on Saturday from 13:00 to 16:00. The Level Up Celebration aims to reward summer reading successes with music performances, interactive story time, and art activities for children. Kids will have the opportunity to explore various activity stations, complete challenges, and earn stamps on their game cards to unlock surprises.
On Sunday, August 31, the Labour Day Classic will attract football fans to Mosaic Stadium for the sold-out matchup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, with a kickoff scheduled for 17:00.
Also on Sunday, Victoria Park will host the inaugural Regina Reggae Festival from 15:00 to 23:00, featuring a lineup of renowned reggae, ska, and roots music artists, including Jah Cutta and the Door Crashers. Local food vendors will be present to enhance the festive atmosphere.
