Construction of the new Holy Trinity Academy, a K-9 Catholic school in Medicine Hat, is progressing steadily, with an information session scheduled for February 11, 2026. The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education has extended an invitation to families to attend this hour-long update at Holy Family Parish to learn about the latest developments and features of the new facility.

During the information night, attendees will receive insights into the construction milestones and the remaining work required before the school opens its doors in September 2027. The session aims to detail how the new school will enhance student accessibility and foster a supportive environment for the broader community. Discussions will also cover opportunities for sponsorship and naming rights.

School Features and Community Impact

The new academy is designed to accommodate approximately 380 students and includes impressive facilities such as a full theatre with additional seating for special needs, two full-sized gymnasiums, and dedicated classrooms for subjects like science, dance, woodworking, and art. A food lab will be available, with the capacity to support a concessions stand during events held in either the theatre or gymnasium.

Holy Trinity Academy will unify students from three existing schools: St. Francis Xavier, St. Michael’s, and St. Mary’s. The design process has been a collaborative effort with Monsignor McCoy High School, aimed at improving programming across the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education (MHCBE).

Notably, the school’s design prioritizes accessibility. Features include modern wheelchair access, drop-down tables, and braille signage, positioning it to become the most accessible school in Alberta. Additional enhancements, such as painted lines on the floors and a colour-coded map system, will assist new students in navigating their way to classrooms. The outdoor playground is also being constructed with accessibility in mind, ensuring that all students can enjoy the facilities.

Community Engagement and Attendance

Families within the Medicine Hat Catholic community are encouraged to participate in the information session starting at 19:00 on February 11. A press release from the board emphasizes that, regardless of whether a child will attend Holy Trinity Academy or another Catholic school, the event is relevant for all families.

“The presence of staff and families from across the division helps strengthen the foundation of Catholic education for all,” the release stated. This gathering not only highlights the progress of the new academy but also fosters a sense of community among families and educators alike.
