The University of Saskatchewan (USask) has officially welcomed its community back to campus under the leadership of new President Vince Bruni-Bossio. In a message aimed at students, faculty, and staff, Bruni-Bossio emphasized the university’s commitment to excellence in teaching and research, as well as its pivotal role in the community.

Commitment to Community and Excellence

Located on Treaty 6 Territory and the homeland of the Métis, USask is recognized as a member of U15 Canada, which comprises the country’s top research-intensive universities. The institution has maintained a strong global reputation, consistently ranking among the best universities worldwide based on research output and impact.

“Since its establishment in 1907, students, faculty, and staff have been at the heart of this institution,” Bruni-Bossio noted. He highlighted that USask attracts students from over 130 countries, fostering a diverse academic environment in its main campus located in Saskatoon and through various programs offered across the province.

Bruni-Bossio acknowledged the challenges posed by an evolving political, social, and financial landscape. He stressed the importance of collaboration within the university and the broader community, stating that moving forward together is essential for USask to address the challenges facing Saskatchewan, Canada, and the world.

Strategic Planning for the Future

In the coming months, USask will develop a new strategic plan designed to clarify the university’s identity and values. This plan aims to set a course for advancing shared goals that highlight the university’s value to both local and global communities. “Our new strategic plan will leverage our research enterprise, including a unique cluster of research infrastructure and expertise,” he stated.

Bruni-Bossio expressed his commitment to enhancing student experiences, assuring all students that support services are available to help them thrive academically and personally. This includes resources related to academics, finances, health, wellness, and technology. He encouraged students to visit students.usask.ca to explore the available services designed for their success.

The President underscored the university’s dedication to fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and fairness, aiming to create a community where every member feels empowered to contribute to collective success. “I wish you a happy and healthy new year and look forward to connecting throughout 2026,” Bruni-Bossio concluded.
