Plano Library Launches Writing and Craft Programs for All Ages
The Plano Library is actively engaging the community with a range of writing and craft programs designed for both children and adults. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to foster creativity and provide support to those in need. A care package drive runs until December 15, 2023, aimed at assisting individuals experiencing homelessness in the Chicago area.
As part of the care package drive, the library is collecting essential items such as new and unopened men’s and women’s socks, razors, mini lotion bottles, travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, bars of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, period products, gloves, and winter hats. Volunteers from Operation Jesus will personally deliver these care packages to homeless individuals in downtown Chicago on Christmas morning.
Upcoming Adult Programs
The library offers various programs for adults that encourage creativity and learning. Interested participants can register for adult programs by calling 630-552-2009. One notable offering is the “Crafts to Go – Winter Birdhouse” event on December 6, providing free craft kits for high school students and adults on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additionally, the “Technology Help Desk” with Steve Goodwin will take place on December 9 from noon to 1 p.m. This free drop-in event allows individuals to seek assistance with their computers or devices. Participants are encouraged to bring their devices for personalized help, with no registration required.
Another engaging opportunity is the “Writers’ Group” meeting on December 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Writers can share their work and discuss ideas, with options to attend in person or via Zoom. The Zoom meeting ID is 988 2555 0591 and the passcode is 048559.
On December 13, the library will host “New Life for Old Bags,” a session dedicated to turning plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. For more information about this initiative, interested individuals can contact Ceil Carey at [email protected] or call 708-846-1704.
Children’s Programs and Activities
The Plano Library also offers a variety of engaging programs for children. To register for kids’ programs, parents can call 630-552-2025. “Legos at the Library” invites children to unleash their creativity on November 24, with sessions at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Children under six must be accompanied by an adult, and no registration is required.
“Bookworms,” scheduled for November 25, will feature fun stories, healthy snacks, and creative activities. This program is geared towards independent students in grades K-3 and requires registration.
Additionally, on December 9, the library will host “Pizza & Pages” for students in grades 7-9, offering a chance to discuss a pre-read book while enjoying pizza. Registration is necessary for this program.
For younger children, the “Preschool Art Explorers” program on December 10 allows children aged 3-5 to explore various art materials. Parents must stay in the Kids’ Library during the session, which also requires registration.
Finally, the “Create Art with Petite Palette” classes will focus on acrylic painting. Classes are scheduled for different age groups, with a $5 fee for each session, payable at the time of registration.
The Plano Library continues to serve as a vital community resource, promoting engagement and support through its diverse programming.
