Palgrave Public School Secures $3,000 Prize for Classroom Resources
Palgrave Public School has been awarded a substantial prize of $3,000 in educational resources from Twinkl Canada, a company dedicated to providing teaching materials to educators. The school emerged victorious in a recent contest aimed at alleviating classroom expenses and recognizing the essential contributions of teachers. This initiative included five school-supply prizes, featuring one grand prize of $3,000 and four additional awards of $500 each.
The winning entry was drawn on February 17, 2026, with Grade 5 teacher Soniya Mistry entering the school into the contest. Mistry expressed her initial disbelief upon receiving the notification of the win, saying, “I was on Twinkl, I happened to see the application, I put it through, and at the time that I put it through, I don’t think I was really thinking much about it.” She actively searches for grants and opportunities, emphasizing that every contribution matters in supporting both students and teachers.
Principal Lindsay Taylor described the moment of winning as surreal, stating, “I thought the grand prize was too good to be true.” The excitement was palpable in the school, where staff celebrated the unexpected windfall. Taylor noted that the funds are especially significant for their community, which sometimes feels overlooked for such contests. She added, “To be the grand prize winner at a time when we’re always looking to bring more resources in…this gift could not be better.”
The funding will support various initiatives at Palgrave Public School, which has been undergoing significant changes, including the introduction of a STEM room and the renovation of their early readers library. Taylor explained that these advancements require financial backing, and the contest winnings provide a much-needed boost to accelerate their progress. “This funding will not only help us reach the next level but also do so at an accelerated pace,” she stated.
The principal highlighted the flexibility of the grant, which allows the school to make impactful purchases that benefit students over time. “Instead of just something that impacts these kids today, we can impact them over time, and I can’t think of anything better,” Taylor added. Her pride in the staff’s dedication to seeking out opportunities for their students was evident.
The school plans to convene with all departments—primary, junior, and intermediate—to strategize the best use of the grant. Sarah Fletcher, Country Manager at Twinkl Canada, remarked on the importance of supporting educators. “Our mission is to help those who teach, and this prize is a small but meaningful way to say thank you to educators who make a difference every day,” she said.
As Palgrave Public School embarks on this exciting journey to enhance its educational offerings, the community looks forward to the positive outcomes that will emerge from this generous support. The school’s commitment to providing quality education and resources remains steadfast, ensuring that all students can thrive in a nurturing learning environment.
