Residents of Mansfield, Ontario, can look forward to a new educational facility as plans for a $16.4 million elementary school have been announced. The upcoming Mansfield Elementary School will be situated at the intersection of 9th Sideroad and County Road 18, designed to accommodate up to 328 students. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Ontario government to invest $23 billion over the next decade in the province’s educational infrastructure.

Paul Calandra, Ontario’s Minister of Education, emphasized the importance of these investments. “By building and expanding schools across the province, we’re making sure students can learn in modern, high-quality environments that support strong achievement,” he stated. This funding aims to equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to prepare for successful careers.

The newly planned school will be under the jurisdiction of the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB), which has recently acquired the site for this important development. The chair of UGDSB, Ralf Mesenbrink, expressed gratitude for the funding and acknowledged the efforts of board staff and trustees in advocating for this project. “We look forward to working with our municipal partners as the project unfolds,” he added.

In a press release issued on January 30, 2026, UGDSB highlighted the necessity of creating additional learning spaces to address the growing population in Dufferin County. According to the most recent census data from 2021, Dufferin County’s population is estimated to be between 66,000 and 68,000. Projections suggest this number could rise to between 95,000 and 100,700 by 2051.

Local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Sylvia Jones also welcomed the funding announcement, stating, “The funding for a new Mansfield Elementary School in Mansfield is great news for our community. Through this investment, we’re creating opportunities for students to thrive today and well into the future.”

As the project progresses, a specific timeline for the school’s completion has yet to be established. The community eagerly anticipates the benefits this new educational facility will bring to local families and future generations of students.
