NCIA Launches $2,000 Scholarships for Heartland Students in STEM

High school students from Alberta’s Industrial Heartland can now apply for a scholarship aimed at promoting diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), environmental sciences, and skilled trades. The Northeast Capital Industrial Association (NCIA) offers a total of four scholarships, each valued at $2,000, to support students pursuing post-secondary education in fields vital to the region’s economic future and sustainability.

The NCIA Scholarship evaluates applicants based on academic performance and a 500-word essay. This essay must illustrate the student’s commitment to a career in STEM or trades, while also addressing the role of innovation and technology in fostering economic growth and environmental stewardship. The selection process also considers students’ extracurricular activities and future aspirations.

Patrick Howe, Executive Director of NCIA, emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent. “Alberta’s Industrial Heartland is filled with talented young people who are shaping the future of our province,” he stated. “This scholarship recognizes the power of diverse perspectives and helps students turn their ambition into impact.”

The NCIA plays a critical role in facilitating dialogue among industry stakeholders, government bodies, and local communities. Its mission is to support sustainable industrial growth while ensuring a high quality of life for residents in the region, which includes Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, Lamont County, and the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
