Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association Welcomes New Members
The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively inviting new members to join its ranks. Founded in 1993, the association aims to connect former students, teachers, and community members who wish to support the school and foster ongoing relationships. Alan Clegg, a founding member and past chairman, emphasized the association’s role in helping individuals reconnect with old friends and classmates.
Clegg noted that while some former students have maintained contact through modern technology, others have lost touch over the years. “Some people left the school and kept up with modern technology and stayed in touch with their classmates,” he explained. “But there are some classes that went different directions—the school is over a hundred years old—now years later, in life, they’re trying to get together and renew some old friendships.” The LTAA serves as a hub for these connections, assisting with organizing reunions and events.
Reunions and Community Support
The LTAA has successfully hosted three major reunions, coinciding with significant milestones in the school’s history. The first took place in 1993 to celebrate the opening of the new high school and the demolition of the old facility. The second reunion was held in 2000 in honor of the new millennium, followed by a centennial celebration in 2012. As Clegg proudly stated, “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary. We are the oldest secondary school in Surrey.”
While no large reunions are currently planned, Clegg mentioned that yearly graduating classes continue to organize their own gatherings. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he said, reflecting on the ongoing commitment to maintaining connections among alumni.
The association is not only a social network but also actively supports the school through scholarships for graduating students. Since its establishment, the LTAA has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships. “We support our school in many ways,” Clegg remarked, highlighting the association’s dedication to enhancing the educational experience for current and future students.
Membership to the LTAA is accessible, with a lifetime membership costing just $10. Interested individuals can obtain more information or make payments through email at [email protected]. The association also maintains an active presence on social media, with a dedicated Facebook page at @LordTweedsmuirSecondaryAlumni.
As the Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association continues to grow, it remains committed to fostering a strong sense of community among its members, ensuring that the legacy of the school and its students lives on well into the future.
