The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively inviting new members to join its ranks. Founded in 1993, the association is open to all former students, teachers, and community members who wish to support the school’s objectives. Alan Clegg, a founding member and the association’s first chairman, emphasizes that membership offers a valuable opportunity to reconnect with old friends and foster new relationships.

Clegg highlights the importance of staying connected, noting that while some alumni have maintained modern communication with classmates, others have lost touch over the years. “Some people left the school and kept up with modern technology and stayed in touch with their classmates,” he explained. “But there are some classes that went different directions—the school is over a hundred years old—now years later, in life, they’re trying to get together and renew some old friendships.”

Supporting the Community and Organizing Reunions

The LTAA serves as a central hub for alumni, assisting in various initiatives, including organizing reunions and social gatherings. Clegg stated, “It’s kind of a centre-thing and can help the school and can assist people—whether they’re organizing reunions or get-togethers.” He believes the association plays a crucial role in maintaining the school’s legacy long after members have graduated.

The LTAA has successfully hosted three significant reunions: one in 1993 to mark the opening of the new high school and the demolition of the old building, another in the year 2000 for the new millennium, and a centennial celebration in 2012. “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary,” Clegg noted, adding, “We are the oldest secondary school in Surrey.”

Currently, no new school reunions are scheduled, although Clegg mentioned that annual gatherings for specific graduating classes take place each year. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he said.

Contributions to Education

Since its establishment, the LTAA has made significant contributions to the local community. The association has provided over $120,000 in scholarships to graduating students, showcasing its commitment to supporting education. Clegg remarked, “We support our school in many ways. We provide scholarships for graduating students.”

Membership in the alumni association is affordable, with a lifetime membership costing just $10. The association also maintains a presence on Facebook at @LordTweedsmuirSecondaryAlumni, offering a platform for alumni to connect and stay informed about the association’s activities.
