The Langley Community Music School (LCMS) is set to welcome families to its annual open house on March 17, 2024, aiming to foster a love for music among children and their families. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the event will take place in the school’s Rose Gellert Hall, located at 4899 207 St. This gathering will provide children of all ages the opportunity to engage with a variety of musical instruments, including the tuba, drums, clarinet, and violin.

According to principal Carolyn Granholm, the open house is designed to share the joy of music with the community. Attendees can look forward to meeting the school’s dedicated teachers, touring the facilities, and exploring the diverse programs offered for students of all ages and abilities. These programs encompass classical, popular, and world music, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

The evening will kick off with student performances, followed by a unique chance for visitors to interact with various instruments. Granholm emphasized the importance of hands-on experiences, stating, “There is something for everyone.” A highlight of the event will be a concert at 7 p.m. featuring renowned percussionist Bruce Henczel, who will showcase a range of percussion instruments and rhythms from around the world.

“This is always a pleasure to share music with the community, and a joy watching the children having fun learning about and trying different instruments,” Granholm added. The open house is part of a series of free children’s concerts and community events at LCMS. Future events include Tunes for Tots on May 5, featuring the Rose Gellert String Quartet, and the LCMS Community Day open house and swap meet on May 9.

Reservations are not required for the open house, making it accessible for all interested families. For more information, the public can contact LCMS at 604-534-2848 or visit their website at LangleyMusic.com. Since 1969, LCMS has been a non-profit organization and registered charity committed to providing high-quality musical education to students across all skill levels. With the support of the community, LCMS has grown to become one of the largest non-profit music schools in the province, earning both national and international acclaim for its programs.
