Julia Hull District Library Announces Winter Reading Challenge and Events
The Julia Hull District Library has launched its Winter Reading Challenge, inviting adults to participate via the Beanstack app. Participants can log their reading and activities to earn virtual badges and tickets, which can be used to enter a draw for one of two grand prizes. The challenge will run until February 28.
Exciting Events Scheduled for All Ages
The library has planned a variety of engaging events throughout February. On February 3, a special event for students in grades 5-8 will take place at 6 p.m. Participants will have the chance to build candy heart catapults, ready to launch at imaginary castles. Registration is required, and interested individuals can sign up by calling 815-645-8611.
For adults, the library will host a “Cocoa & Crafts” session on February 7 from 1-3 p.m. This event will provide a cozy atmosphere for participants to create seasonal tumblers or mugs using precut vinyl designs while enjoying hot cocoa and conversation.
Another highlight for families is the “Very Spectacular Costume Character Storytime” scheduled for February 16 at 1 p.m. This event will feature the beloved character from Eric Carle’s classic book, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Attendees will enjoy stories, songs, and crafts, with photo opportunities available. Registration is required by calling 815-645-8611.
Community Engagement and Fundraising Initiatives
On February 20, the library will host a Senior Social event featuring Bingo, coffee, and donuts starting at 10 a.m. This gathering aims to foster community connections among seniors, and registration is necessary.
Later in the month, on February 23, the library will present “Hot ‘N’ Cole!” featuring live music by Cynthia & Matt of Nostalgia Entertainment. Attendees can expect to hear timeless Cole Porter classics like “Too Darn Hot” and “I Love Paris.” The performance begins at 6:30 p.m., and registration is required.
Finally, on February 27, the library will hold a Trivia Night fundraiser benefiting the Friends of the Library. Teams of four to six players can participate at a cost of $10 per player. The trivia event will run from 7-9 p.m. and aims to support library programs and services.
The Julia Hull District Library continues to be a hub for learning and community engagement, offering activities that cater to diverse age groups and interests. For more information on events and registration, interested individuals can visit the library or call 815-645-8611.
