Joliet District 86 Superintendent Dr. Rouse to Depart in 2027
Dr. Theresa Rouse, the Superintendent of Joliet Public Schools District 86, has announced her decision not to renew her contract, which is set to expire in June 2027. This announcement allows the district time to initiate the search for her successor ahead of the 2027-2028 school year.
The Board of Education expressed gratitude for Dr. Rouse’s leadership and contributions during her tenure, which began in the summer of 2016. In a statement released on Thursday, they highlighted her efforts in enhancing student achievement, overseeing the construction of two new junior high schools, and fostering a climate of inclusion within the district.
Dr. Rouse, who has spent the majority of her career in schools in California, emphasized that her decision to step down was voluntary. The Board reiterated their support for her ongoing initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of the district, its students, and stakeholders. They expressed optimism about continuing their collaborative relationship throughout the remainder of her term.
The statement from the Board concluded with an acknowledgment of the advanced notice, which will facilitate a smooth transition in leadership. As the district prepares for this change, community members and staff will likely engage in discussions about the future direction of Joliet Public Schools District 86.
The Herald-News has reached out to Dr. Rouse for additional comments, and updates will follow regarding this significant leadership transition.
