The DeKalb Public Library will host a workshop designed to teach community members how to transcribe original documents from the National Archives. This initiative is part of the broader America 250 campaign, which commemorates the nation’s historic milestones. The free event is scheduled for 2 p.m. on January 11, 2024, in the library’s lower-level Zimmerman Meeting Room, located at 309 Oak St.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn techniques for deciphering cursive handwriting and creating keyword tags. The workshop promises a hands-on experience, allowing attendees to engage directly with the transcription process. To participate, individuals must create a National Archives login, which requires two-factor authentication for security measures.

For those concerned about access to technology, the library will provide laptops for use during the workshop. Due to limited seating, attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis, encouraging early arrival to secure a spot.

For further information, interested individuals can contact Emily K. via email at [email protected] or by calling 815-756-9568, extension 6106. This workshop not only offers a chance to learn about historical documentation but also plays a vital role in preserving and understanding the nation’s heritage.
