The Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation is now accepting grant applications aimed at enhancing agricultural literacy in classrooms for Pre-K through eighth-grade teachers. This initiative seeks to bolster educational programs that promote understanding of agriculture among young students.

The foundation offers two distinct grant options. The capital improvement grant provides up to $1,000 for classroom equipment intended for long-term use, allowing educators to invest in resources that will benefit their students over multiple years. Additionally, this grant allows for up to 30% of the funding to be allocated for consumable supplies. The second option, a supply grant, awards up to $500 for various materials and supplies needed for agricultural programs.

Eligible projects supported by these grants include a range of educational tools and experiences. Teachers may apply for funding to support initiatives such as classroom incubators, agriculture-themed books, field trips to local farms, school gardens, pollinator plots, and guest speaker events. These resources can help foster a deeper appreciation for agriculture and its importance in everyday life.

Applications for the grants must be submitted by February 28, 2024. Interested educators can find the application forms at the Bureau County Farm Bureau’s website, bureaucountyfarmbureau.org. It is essential to note that late applications will not be accepted until the next funding cycle, emphasizing the importance of timely submission.

For further inquiries or assistance regarding the grant process, educators can contact the Bureau County Farm Bureau directly at 815-875-6468 or via email at [email protected]. This initiative represents a valuable opportunity for teachers to enhance their agricultural education efforts, ultimately benefiting students in Bureau County, Illinois.
