Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) has announced the opening of its 2026 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest, inviting currently enrolled students to share their experiences. Students are encouraged to submit essays that address the prompt, “How IVCC has changed my life.” The winner will receive a prize of $300 and will present their essay at the Commencement ceremony scheduled for May 16, 2026.

All full-time and part-time students currently enrolled at IVCC are eligible to participate in this contest. Submissions should be limited to 500 words and must be sent as an attachment to [email protected], with “Paul Simon Essay” included in the subject line. The deadline for submission is noon on March 6, 2026.

The winning essay will not only be recognized at IVCC but will also enter the Illinois Community College Trustees Association statewide contest, where one selected submission will be awarded $500. This offers an additional incentive for students to reflect on their educational journeys and articulate the impact of IVCC on their lives.

For further information regarding the contest, interested students can reach out to the Vice President for Student Services, Mark Grzybowski, at 815-224-0393 or via email at [email protected].

This contest commemorates the legacy of Paul Simon, a distinguished figure in Illinois politics and higher education, and aims to inspire students to engage thoughtfully with their educational experiences.
