Geneva School District Partners with Library to Enhance Student Access
The **Geneva School District 304** has joined forces with the **Geneva Public Library District** to enhance student access to library resources. Starting in **Fall 2026**, this partnership allows students to use their school identification as a library card, significantly expanding their access to educational materials.
According to a news release from the school district, this initiative aims to “remove barriers and open doors to thousands of resources,” ensuring that students continue their education beyond school hours. Through this new program, each student’s school ID will be linked to a library account, providing seamless access to a variety of materials including books, digital media, and educational tools.
Students and their families will benefit from the flexibility of using either a school ID or a library card for library services. This includes borrowing materials, registering for programs, and reserving study spaces. The partnership also grants round-the-clock access to online resources such as homework assistance, research databases, and test preparation materials for the **ACT**, **SAT**, and **AP exams**.
Expanding Learning Opportunities
The collaboration not only serves to streamline access to resources but also fosters an environment conducive to learning. Parents will have the ability to book rooms for younger learners, effectively transforming the library into an extension of their classrooms. Facilities such as the **Makerspace** and the **Studio** provide after-school spaces for creative and collaborative projects.
Moreover, middle and high school students can participate in the library’s **Volunteen program**. This initiative allows students to contribute to library activities while acquiring valuable job skills. Participation in this program also enables them to earn credit hours through the **GIVE Project**, which stands for **Geneva Is Giving Everywhere**.
The school district emphasized that this partnership transcends mere convenience, highlighting its goal of cultivating a community that prioritizes lifelong learning. Students who currently possess a library card will maintain their existing accounts while their school IDs will be added for enhanced accessibility.
As this initiative prepares to launch, parents will have the option to opt out of linking their child’s library ID during the school verification process in the spring, should they choose to do so. This new partnership stands as a testament to the commitment of both the school district and the library in supporting educational growth and community engagement for all students.
