Explore Richmond: Robotics, Fairs, and Community Celebrations

Richmond, BC, offers a variety of engaging activities this weekend, catering to families, community enthusiasts, and those interested in local culture. From a free robotics workshop for children to a summer fair supporting local athletes, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Robotics Workshop Invites Young Innovators
A free, in-person robotics workshop takes place on September 6, 2023, hosted by Moonpreneur. Designed for children aged 7 to 14, this hands-on experience encourages participants to explore robotics and coding through interactive exercises. Families are advised to bring a laptop for the one hour and 15-minute sessions, which are divided by age groups with multiple time slots:
– 11:00 AM – Ages 7–8
– 1:00 PM – Ages 9–10
– 3:00 PM – Ages 11–12
– 4:45 PM – Ages 13–14
Reservations are required and can be made through the Moonpreneur website. The workshop will be held at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport, located at 10720 Cambie Rd.
Support Local Athletes at the Summer Fair
On September 7, 2023, Josiah Kicks Academy is hosting a fundraising summer fair aimed at supporting local taekwondo athletes representing British Columbia at the ITF Taekwondo World Championships this year. The event features martial arts demonstrations, mini-games, and prizes, along with food vendors and booths from local businesses.
Attendees can participate in a community raffle and enjoy live performances, culminating in an outdoor movie night. Tickets are available for $18 for adults and $14 for children when purchased online via Eventbrite. The fair will run from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM at 11551 Dyke Rd., Richmond.
Richmond Farm Fest Celebrates Local Agriculture
After a six-year hiatus, the Richmond Farm Fest is back on September 7, 2023, celebrating the city’s agricultural heritage. Festival highlights include a Farmers and Artisans Market featuring locally grown produce and homemade goods.
The event will showcase culinary demonstrations by Pursuit Kitchen, with chefs conducting live cooking sessions at noon, 1 PM, and 2 PM using fresh ingredients sourced from local farms. A variety of food trucks and local vendors will also be present. Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport to reach the festival, which takes place at Garden City Lands located at 5040 Garden City Rd.. A free bike and e-scooter valet service will be available, along with free parking at KPU (8771 Lansdowne Rd.) and Richmond City Hall (6911 No. 3 Rd.).
Community Appreciation Day in Steveston
The Steveston Community Society is hosting a Community Appreciation Day on September 7, 2023, to celebrate the existing community centre and library before its impending closure in December. Activities will include free face painting, family storytime sessions with the library, arts and crafts, and various entertainment options for all ages.
The event will take place at the Steveston Community Centre and Library, located at 4111 Moncton St., from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Richmond residents and visitors have ample opportunities this weekend to engage with their community, support local initiatives, and enjoy a variety of entertainment options.
