Exciting Events at Brandon University and Assiniboine College This Week
Brandon University and Assiniboine College are hosting a variety of engaging events this week, showcasing the talents of students and faculty. From art exhibitions to musical performances, the campus communities are encouraged to participate and support their peers.
Brandon University’s Vibrant Activities
On December 1, 2025, the IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at Brandon University features a talk by Kevin McKenzie, an assistant professor with over 30 years of experience in the art world. McKenzie’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with pieces included in prominent collections such as the National Art Gallery of Canada and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The session will commence at 11:30 a.m., providing attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from an accomplished artist.
The Bobcats have concluded their first-half sports schedules, but the excitement continues with the Holiday Hoops Camp, scheduled for tonight from 18:00 to 20:00. Open to youth in Grades 3 to 10, the camp welcomes participants of all experience levels. Registration is available through a monetary donation or by bringing a new, unwrapped toy. In addition, several student musical ensembles will present their final fall term performances. The BU Brass Ensemble is set to perform a Christmas concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. On December 3, the BU Concert Choir and BU Chorale will take the stage at Knox United Church starting at 7:30 p.m. The week will culminate with the BU Piano Ensemble finale on December 4 at 4:30 p.m. at the same venue. A visual art student showcase is also taking place at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art, featuring works from students across four courses. The gallery will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday.
Moreover, Brandon University Theatre will present the dark comedy “Mother Courage and her Children” from December 3 to December 7. Assiniboine College’s Celebrated Events
Assiniboine College is embracing its community through Storytelling Week, running from December 1 to December 5. This event features elders and speakers sharing personal and cultural stories, offering insights into their journeys and the significance of storytelling. Participants are invited to join in person throughout the week.
The college’s popular Holiday Buffet is sold out, but future events at the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts can be explored at assiniboine.net/events. Additionally, a Trades Program Mixer will take place on December 4 from 16:00 to 17:30 at the Mazer Group Main Street in the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology at the North Hill campus.
Lastly, the Assiniboine College Alumni Association is preparing for its annual Retiree Holiday Coffee Party, scheduled for December 10 at the Victoria Avenue East campus, starting at 9:30 a.m.. More details are available at assiniboine.net/events.
