Ecole St. Mary High School in Prince Albert will host its annual Open House on March 6 and 7, 2025. This event provides prospective students and their families an opportunity to explore the school’s facilities and learn about its educational offerings. Principal Dwayne Gareau emphasized that the format will mirror previous years, aiming to create a welcoming environment for all attendees.

During the Open House, scheduled to begin at 18:30, guests will receive important information about the school’s philosophy and operations. The evening will commence with remarks from Gareau in the gymnasium, followed by guided tours showcasing various facilities. “Our goal is to give everyone a comprehensive view of what we offer,” Gareau stated. “We want students to see all the different spaces we utilize.”

The tours are designed to cater to individual interests, acknowledging that students may have diverse preferences. “One interested student might be super excited to see one area,” Gareau explained. “Some might not even know what they want to see until they explore.”

The Open House also serves as a vital transition tool for both parents and students. For families, particularly those with first-time high schoolers, the experience can be significant. “Gareau noted that transitioning into high school can be challenging, especially for families with multiple children. “Different students have varying comfort levels with transitions,” he added.

The City of Prince Albert offers a range of high school options, and Gareau respects the choices families make in selecting the best fit. “We understand that everyone has choices, and they are making decisions based on what is best for them as a family and as a student,” he said.

The ability to choose schools and classes contributes to students finding their optimal learning environment. “Gareau remarked on the importance of having options within the educational landscape. “It tends to draw students who want to be in your building, and when students choose to be there, it fosters a successful environment for everyone.”

The Open House not only showcases Ecole St. Mary but also facilitates connections between families and school administration. Tours will be conducted by Vice Principals Jason Bourdon and Lydia McLeod, along with Gareau. This initiative aims to create immediate connections for families with key school officials. “Having that connection point with a principal or vice principal is vital,” Gareau noted.

While the majority of attendees are typically Grade 8 students preparing to transition to Grade 9, the Open House is open to all prospective students, including those in higher grades or new to the city. “Gareau indicated that students at various stages of their education may consider the event as part of their academic journey.”

The Ecole St. Mary High School Open House presents an essential opportunity for students and families to engage with the school community. It fosters an environment of inquiry and connection, making it a valuable experience for those considering their high school options.
