Dixon High School Recognizes James Cocar as December Student of the Month
Dixon High School has recognized senior James Cocar as its Student of the Month for December 2023. Cocar, the son of Bunyan and Rachel Cocar, has made a significant impact through his academic achievements and extracurricular involvement.
Cocar finds his Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus class particularly engaging. He described the course as a challenging yet rewarding experience that allows him to master complex topics. His passion for learning extends beyond academics; he aspires to pursue a career in STEM, specifically in mechanical engineering, while also maintaining a strong connection to music.
After graduation, Cocar plans to dual major in mechanical engineering and saxophone performance. He aims to integrate his love for music into his professional life, participating in gigs and performing in professional ensembles. This commitment reflects his belief in pursuing multiple passions simultaneously.
In addition to his academic focus, Cocar is actively involved in several extracurricular activities. He participates in the scholastic bowl and the municipal band, both of which he cites as some of his favorite ways to engage with the community. These activities not only enhance his skills but also allow him to contribute to the local culture.
A memorable experience for Cocar was performing for younger students in the Dixon Public School (DPS) district. He expressed that these moments are special and inspire him to continue making music. Sharing his passion with the next generation reinforces his dedication to both his academic and artistic pursuits.
Looking ahead, Cocar’s hope is to build a career that allows him to do what he loves: play and perform music while working in mechanical engineering. His determination and diverse interests position him well for a successful future, embodying the spirit of innovation and creativity that Dixon High School values.
As the school celebrates Cocar’s achievements, he serves as a role model for his peers, demonstrating that pursuing one’s passions can lead to fulfilling opportunities both academically and personally.
