James Cocar, a senior at Dixon High School, has been recognized as the Student of the Month for December. His dedication to academics and extracurricular activities has earned him this prestigious title, highlighting his commitment to both his studies and community involvement.
Cocar, the son of Bunyan and Rachel Cocar, has expressed a deep passion for learning, particularly in his classes. When asked about his most engaging subject, he highlighted AP Calculus, stating, “It heavily challenges me but is extremely rewarding mastering new topics.” This enthusiasm for mathematics reflects his academic drive and readiness for future challenges.
Looking ahead, Cocar has ambitious plans following graduation. He aims to pursue a career in STEM, specifically in mechanical engineering, while also keeping music an integral part of his life. “I plan to dual major in mechanical engineering and saxophone performance,” he shared. This dual focus demonstrates his desire to blend technical skills with artistic expression.
Cocar is also actively involved in extracurricular activities, including participating in the scholastic bowl and municipal band. These experiences not only enhance his leadership skills but also contribute to his sense of community. “Performing for the younger students in the DPS district is always special,” he noted, reflecting on memorable moments during school events. “It always inspires me to continue making music.”
As he looks toward the future, Cocar hopes to create a career that allows him to pursue his passions. “My hope for the future is to be able to make a career out of doing the things that I love, such as playing and performing music,” he emphasized.
Cocar’s recognition as Student of the Month is a testament to his hard work and dedication. His journey through high school not only showcases his academic excellence but also his commitment to enriching the lives of those around him. As he prepares for the next chapter, the Dixon community celebrates his achievements and looks forward to seeing where his talents will take him.
