Burlington Teen Organizes Porch Pickup to Aid Food Bank
A 14-year-old from Burlington, Ayden Zbikowski, took significant action to help local families facing food insecurity during the holiday season. On December 21, 2025, Ayden organized a porch pickup event, collecting food donations for the Burlington Food Bank. His initiative resulted in an impressive total of **289 pounds** of food gathered in just one day.
Ayden began his efforts by distributing over **200 flyers** in the Brant Hills and Tyandaga neighbourhoods on December 19. He returned with his father, **Arek Zbikowski**, to collect donations left by residents on their porches. Ayden’s goal was to simplify the donation process, particularly during a time when many families require additional support. By bringing the initiative directly to people’s homes, he aimed to eliminate common barriers such as transportation challenges and time constraints.
Empowering the Community Through Food Drives
This porch pickup is part of Ayden’s broader youth-led food drive initiative. So far, he has raised more than **1,278 pounds** of food and **$925** in monetary donations throughout 2025. Community members interested in supporting his ongoing efforts can do so by visiting his website at **aydenfooddrive.com** or following him on Instagram at **@aydenzburl**.
The Burlington Food Bank, which benefits from Ayden’s drive, plays a critical role in ensuring dignified and inclusive food access for all community members. It offers a wide range of food options, including canned goods, packaged items, and fresh products like milk, produce, meat, and bread. This variety helps families meet their nutritional needs effectively.
In addition to the food it provides, the Burlington Food Bank prioritizes privacy and respect for its clients. First-time registrations and initial intakes are conducted confidentially, ensuring that clients feel safe and respected. The organization encourages a culture of mutual courtesy, fostering a welcoming environment for everyone who seeks assistance.
To become a member of the Burlington Food Bank, individuals must present proof of their name and address, along with identification for each family member. Once registered, clients can visit the food bank once every three weeks during regular business hours.
Location and Hours of Operation
The Burlington Food Bank is located at **1A – 1254 Plains Road East**, with operating hours from Monday to Friday, **9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.** and Thursdays from **5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.** The food bank is also open on Saturdays from **9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.** It remains closed on Sundays and will take a holiday break from **December 25, 2025**, to **January 5, 2026**.
Ayden’s porch pickup serves as a reminder that community care can emerge from simple actions. By engaging with his neighbours and organizing a food drive, he demonstrates that significant impact can be achieved through grassroots efforts. As families continue to navigate food insecurity, initiatives like Ayden’s highlight the importance of compassion and collaboration within communities.
