Brandon University and Assiniboine College are bustling with a variety of engaging events this week, enhancing the campus experience for students and the community. From art showcases to musical performances, these institutions are fostering a vibrant cultural environment.

Brandon University Highlights

On December 1, 2025, the IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at Brandon University is hosting a speaker series featuring Kevin McKenzie, an esteemed assistant professor with over 30 years of experience in the art world. McKenzie’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with pieces included in the collections of notable institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. today.

The university’s Bobcats have wrapped up their first-half sports schedules, but the Healthy Living Centre remains active. Tonight, the Holiday Hoops Camp will run from 18:00 to 20:00, welcoming youth from Grades 3 to 10 for a fun-filled evening of basketball. Several musical ensembles at Brandon University will showcase their talents this week. The BU Brass Ensemble is set to perform a Christmas concert tonight at 19:30 in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Additionally, the BU Concert Choir and the BU Chorale will perform at Knox United Church on Wednesday, starting at 19:30. The BU Piano Ensemble will conclude the fall term with a performance on Thursday at 16:30, also in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Art enthusiasts can attend a student showcase at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art, featuring works from various courses. The gallery will be open from 12:30 to 16:30, from Wednesday to Saturday. Moreover, the Brandon University Theatre is presenting the production “Mother Courage and her Children,” a dark comedy infused with music, from Wednesday to Sunday. Assiniboine College Events

Across town, Assiniboine College invites the community to participate in Storytelling Week, running from December 1 to December 5. Attendees can hear personal narratives and traditional stories shared by elders and speakers, providing insight into their journeys and cultural significance.

The college is also hosting its popular Holiday Buffet this week, although this year’s event is already sold out. Future events from the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts can be explored at assiniboine.net/events.

On December 4, a Trades Program Mixer will take place from 16:00 to 17:30 at the Mazer Group Main Street in the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology at the North Hill campus. This mixer offers a great opportunity for networking and learning about trades programs.
