Belle River High School Engages Community with Winter Events
Belle River District High School (BRDHS) has fostered community spirit this winter through a series of engaging events that connect current students, prospective students, and local residents. These activities not only provided entertainment but also encouraged community support for those in need.
Winter Warmth Events
On December 18, 2023, BRDHS organized a community skate at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, inviting current students to participate. Following the skate, the Nobles boys hockey team faced off against the Erie Migrations Coyotes in their annual Winter Warmth charity game. Community members, including future Nobles, were encouraged to attend and show support for the teams. Attendees brought warm clothing and canned goods to donate to local families facing hardships.
Experiencing Life as a Noble
The school also welcomed local elementary students on November 28 and December 4 for the “Noble for a Day” initiative. Aleena Holmes, a student from Lakeshore Discovery School, described her experience, stating, “Grade 9 day was really fun. I got to meet lots of teachers and students.” Participants attended three classes, including Technological Design, where they created Noble stickers, and Computer Technologies, where they utilized microbits. This initiative provided a glimpse into the vibrant educational environment at BRDHS.
The Noble Holiday Trolley, a cherished tradition since 2017, took place on December 3. The school’s band, drama students, and dance team performed at several local schools, including Centennial Central Public School and Lakeshore Discovery School. Their performances featured seasonal music, a play focused on kindness, and a Christmas dance. Mr. Walstedt, the music teacher and band director, expressed his joy about the event, saying, “The excitement from the crowd was contagious and a great time was had by all.”
Open House for Future Students
On November 25, BRDHS hosted a Grade 9 Open House, welcoming prospective students and their families. Current students and future Nobles participated in activities and trivia games in the gym, fostering connections among attendees. Ms. Moison, head of the guidance department, remarked on the event’s success, stating, “The event captured the genuine sense of community and care that makes Belle River High School an amazing place to learn and grow.” Parents and students had the opportunity to explore the school and engage with teachers about the classes and programs offered at BRDHS.
With these vibrant activities, the Belle River District High School community is not only enriching the lives of current students but is also warmly welcoming future members into the Noble family. The enthusiasm and support displayed throughout the winter season reflect a promising outlook for the school and its community engagement efforts.
