Vancouver Island Towns Shine on Tripadvisor’s 2026 Best Destinations List

Two towns on Vancouver Island, Canada, have been recognized as top travel destinations for 2026, according to a recent announcement from Tripadvisor. The travel platform’s “Top Destinations for 2026” list highlights the best places to visit around the globe, with Victoria ranked sixth and Tofino in seventh place.

Victoria: A Blend of Tradition and Modern Charm

Tripadvisor characterizes Victoria as “still one of the most British cities in North America.” The city offers a rich cultural experience, featuring high teas, antique shops, and beautiful gardens. Yet, Tripadvisor noted that Victoria is evolving, driven by its younger demographic.

“Driven by the younger generation, the city has sprouted a collection of cool shops, authentic coffee bars, and unique restaurants,” Tripadvisor stated. The city is also home to more cycling routes than any other Canadian city, providing visitors with an ideal way to explore its picturesque landscapes, instead of spending an entire afternoon shopping for antiques.

Tofino: A Year-Round Destination

Meanwhile, Tofino’s appeal lies in its year-round attractions and world-class surfing opportunities. Tripadvisor highlighted that while the town is busiest during the summer months, it also sees a surge of visitors in winter, particularly storm watchers.

“Stay at an upscale inn and enjoy the town that affectionately calls itself The Tree Loving Capital of the World,” Tripadvisor suggested, emphasizing Tofino’s unique charm and natural beauty.

The number one spot in Canada for travel in 2026 is awarded to Banff, Alberta, with Vancouver taking the second position on the list.

Tripadvisor compiles its rankings based on the quality and quantity of reviews submitted to its platform across various categories, including accommodations, restaurants, and activities. The reviews used for this year’s list were collected between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
