Surrey Council to Vote on $480,525 Electrical Upgrade for Stadium
Surrey Council is set to make a significant decision regarding Bear Creek Stadium, with a vote scheduled for March 25, 2024. The council will consider a contract worth $480,525.76 for electrical upgrades at the stadium located in Bear Creek Park, Newton. If approved, the contract will be awarded to Standard Electric BC Ltd., which will oversee essential power service enhancements and event power distribution for the facility.
Bear Creek Stadium, which seats 2,200 spectators, features a grandstand that is partially covered, along with changerooms and public washrooms located beneath the seating area. The facility is part of a broader $27.5 million renovation project that includes an upgraded track meeting international sports standards and improved plazas for concessions and ticket sales.
The proposed upgrades aim to enhance the stadium’s electrical infrastructure, which includes several critical components. Key elements of the plan involve upgrading the main service kiosk, a necessary BC Hydro utility enhancement to support this upgrade, and the installation of a new 400A kiosk specifically designed for special event support. An upgrade to the electrical room within the grandstand is also part of the scope of work.
The decision by Surrey Council will play a crucial role in determining the future functionality and capacity of Bear Creek Stadium. If the council approves the contract, work could begin soon, ensuring that the stadium meets modern electrical needs for both regular events and special occasions. This project represents a significant investment in local infrastructure and aims to enhance the experience for visitors to Bear Creek Park.
As the vote approaches, stakeholders and community members are keenly interested in the outcome, recognizing the importance of these upgrades for the continued use and enjoyment of Bear Creek Stadium. The enhancements are expected to not only improve safety but also support a wider range of events, drawing more visitors to this popular venue.
