Nanos Poll Reveals Jobs and Economy Top Voter Concerns for 2026
OTTAWA – A recent poll conducted by Nanos indicates that jobs and the economy are the foremost concerns for voters as they approach 2026. The survey, published this week, reveals that over 20% of respondents prioritize these economic issues, significantly higher than the 10% who cite relations with the United States and former President Donald Trump as their main focus.
This year-end poll highlights a growing anxiety among Canadians regarding economic stability. Following jobs and the economy, the top five concerns include inflation, health care, and immigration. These findings suggest a shift toward prioritizing domestic economic issues as the country prepares for the upcoming year.
Consumer Confidence Remains Neutral
A separate survey from Nanos released concurrently with the first indicates that consumer confidence is holding steady but remains firmly neutral as the new year approaches. According to Nik Nanos, Chief Data Scientist, Canadians exhibit a pervasive skepticism about the future of both the economy and their personal finances.
The dual surveys included responses from over 1,000 participants during the four weeks leading up to December 26, providing a robust snapshot of public sentiment. The margin of error for the polls stands at plus or minus three percentage points, with a confidence level of 19 times out of 20.
These insights come as the Canadian economy faces various challenges, including rising inflation and debates surrounding healthcare and immigration policies. As 2026 approaches, it is clear that economic issues will remain a pivotal topic for voters, influencing political discourse and decision-making.
This report by the Canadian Press was first published on December 31, 2025, underlining the urgency and relevance of the findings as Canada enters a new year filled with potential economic shifts and political developments.
