Montreal is set to expand its light-rail network with the opening of the Deux-Montagnes line on November 17. This significant addition to the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will introduce 14 new stations, enhancing connectivity across the region.

The new segment of the REM network extends from the city’s northern area to Deux-Montagnes, with three of the stations linking directly to the existing metro system. This expansion is a continuation of the previous rollout of the Brossard line, which launched its first five stations in July 2023, connecting the South Shore to downtown Montreal.

As part of the operational adjustments during the initial phase, the Deux-Montagnes segment will suspend service at 21:30 to facilitate testing on another section expected to be operational by spring 2026.

With a total projected cost of $9.4 billion, the complete 67-kilometre REM network will include a total of 26 stations. This ambitious project aims to improve public transportation access in Montreal, ultimately linking to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, which is scheduled to open in 2027.

The announcement, made public on October 20, 2025, highlights Montreal’s commitment to developing an efficient and modern transit system, addressing the growing demand for reliable transportation options in the metropolitan area. The new stations are expected to significantly ease commuting for many residents and provide a more sustainable alternative to car travel.

As the launch date approaches, city officials and transit authorities are focused on ensuring a smooth transition for the new services, which are anticipated to enhance the overall travel experience for Montrealers and visitors alike.
