Montreal is set to experience significant traffic disruptions this fall due to a wave of construction projects across the Greater Montreal area. According to Mobilité Montréal, a total of 44 major construction projects are currently underway or scheduled to begin soon, with 19 of these projects directly affecting local motorists.

Ongoing work on the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel and Souligny Interchange will result in long-term closures, with completion of the tunnel anticipated by the end of 2027. Maintenance and reconstruction of the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will extend until 2030, further adding to the traffic challenges in the region.

Motorists should be particularly mindful of several key roadways undergoing construction. Work continues on Highway 15 North, which remains under construction between Blainville and Mirabel until December. On Highway 20, a reserved lane is being developed between Sainte-Julie and Beloeil, with expected completion by the end of November. Additionally, asphalting work on the Metropolitan Highway will necessitate a complete weekend closure from September 5 to 8.

Traffic disruptions will not only stem from construction but also from major events in the city. The Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal on September 14, the Beneva Montréal Marathon on September 21, and the Santa Claus Parade on November 22 are scheduled to occur, likely exacerbating congestion.

In downtown Montreal, construction on Ste-Catherine Street will complicate travel, with multiple projects impacting three sections of the street. Furthermore, two construction sites on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge will result in four weekend closures between September and November.

For a comprehensive overview of all ongoing construction projects, including details on specific closures, residents and commuters are encouraged to visit the Mobilité Montréal website. As the season progresses, motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance to mitigate delays.
