Malahat Post Office Set to Reopen in Early November After Delays
The Malahat Post Office is scheduled to reopen during the week of November 3, 2024, following an extensive renovation period that began five months ago. According to Canada Post, the gas station facility that houses the post office initially closed on June 2 for what was expected to be an eight-week renovation.
The extended closure has caused inconvenience for local residents who previously relied on the Malahat Post Office for their postal needs. Instead of their usual location, customers have had to travel approximately 16 kilometres to the Shawnigan Lake Post Office to collect their mail. This temporary arrangement has been in place since the renovation began.
In mid-September, Canada Post announced that construction delays had pushed back the anticipated reopening date to the end of October. As the project nears completion, a final inspection is scheduled for next week. If all goes as planned, the post office will officially reopen its doors to the community.
While awaiting the reopening, customers can continue to access postal services at the Shawnigan Lake Post Office, located at 2741 Shawnigan Lake Rd.. The facility operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To collect mail, individuals must present valid government-issued photo identification.
The renovation project aims to enhance the service experience for residents in the Malahat area. CHEK News has reached out to Centex Petroleum, the gas station operator, for additional insights and will provide updates pending their response. As the reopening approaches, the community looks forward to regaining access to their local postal services.
