Knox Mountain Park to Begin Water Infrastructure Upgrades in October

The city of Kelowna is set to enhance its water infrastructure at Knox Mountain Park, with construction scheduled to commence in early October 2023. This initiative aims to replace aging utility lines and improve the delivery of drinking water from the Knox Mountain Reservoirs. While work is underway, the park will remain open to the public, ensuring continued access to its recreational amenities.
Details of the Construction Project
The project involves the replacement of a main water line situated on a slope that has been identified as having potential slide risks. This improvement is crucial for ensuring a reliable supply of drinking water in the north end of Kelowna. City officials aim to address the aging infrastructure effectively while minimizing disruptions to park visitors.
During the construction period, which is expected to conclude by spring 2026, trails within Knox Mountain Park will remain accessible. However, visitors should be aware that parking facilities may be limited. Additionally, the disc golf course will be closed for the duration of the project.
Community Impact and Future Benefits
The utility enhancements are part of a broader effort by the City of Kelowna to modernize its water systems and ensure the safety and sustainability of its infrastructure. By investing in these improvements, the city not only addresses current needs but also prepares for future demands on its water supply.
City officials encourage residents and visitors to stay informed about the project’s progress and any changes to access or facilities during construction. The upgrades are expected to significantly benefit the community by providing a more robust and reliable water system for years to come.
