Kaz Nejatian has appointed former Shopify vice-president of operations, Giang LeGrice, as the new Chief Operating Officer at Opendoor, a San Francisco-based real estate technology company. This decision comes as Nejatian, who took over as CEO last month, continues to reshape Opendoor’s leadership team.

In a statement shared on X, Nejatian praised LeGrice as his “second-in-command” during their time at Shopify, describing her as a “world-class leader.” He emphasized her significant experience, having transformed operation teams and led financial planning, analysis, and business analytics at Shopify. Nejatian stated, “There is no one in the world I trust more to help Opendoor find the next gear.”

LeGrice is the second former Shopify executive to join Opendoor under Nejatian’s leadership. Shortly after Nejatian’s appointment, Fahd Ananta, a former product manager at Shopify, was brought on board to oversee operations on the buyer side of the business.

Nejatian previously served as the Chief Operating Officer at Shopify, Canada’s largest tech company, since 2019. He succeeded Shrisha Radhakrishna as the interim CEO of Opendoor in September 2023. His leadership has followed a period of tumultuous trading influenced by retail investors, reminiscent of the GameStop trading frenzy.

Nejatian has adopted a more direct approach in communicating with investors, opting to forgo traditional external relations agencies in favor of using X for outreach. He also indicated plans to establish an office in Toronto, highlighting Opendoor’s commitment to expanding its presence in Canada.

Joining LeGrice in the leadership expansion is Morgan Brown, who has been appointed as the new Chief Growth Officer. Previously, Brown was the vice-president of product and growth for artificial intelligence products at Dropbox. He aims to build an “AI-first growth and marketing” organization at Opendoor, as he noted in a LinkedIn post.

In the wake of these leadership changes, Shopify has filled Nejatian’s former role by promoting Jess Hertz, the company’s general counsel, to the position of Chief Operating Officer. Nonetheless, Shopify now faces another vacancy following the announcement of Bobby Morrison‘s departure as Chief Revenue Officer after three years with the company.

These developments are indicative of ongoing shifts within both Opendoor and Shopify, reflecting broader trends within the tech industry. As Nejatian continues to build his team, the impact of these changes on Opendoor’s operations and market strategy will be closely monitored.
