A new Hyatt dual-brand hotel is set to be constructed in the Yard district of Prince Albert, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2026. The developer, who wishes to remain anonymous at this time, confirmed the plans in an email to paNOW, expressing enthusiasm about expanding accommodation options in the region.

In the email, the developer stated, “We are pleased to bring a brand-new Hyatt dual-brand hotel to the Prince Albert market. This project has been a long time coming, and we’re excited to offer more options for people visiting PA for leisure or work.” The hotel is expected to feature 140 suites, a large indoor water park, and various dining options, including a steakhouse and a quick-service restaurant.

The design of the hotel aims to cater to both short-term visitors and those seeking extended stays, with longer-term guests provided suites equipped with full kitchens. The developer highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “As the city continues to grow and diversify, this project will be a perfect fit for the Prince Albert market.” They believe the new amenities will enhance the accommodation and dining landscape in the city, potentially attracting larger events in the future.

With the goal of appealing to travelling families and business professionals, the hotel may also serve as a recreational option for local residents. The first phase of the hotel is anticipated to open by spring 2027, making it the third hotel in The Yard district. The first hotel, a Holiday Inn, has already been constructed along Highway 3, while a six-story hotel, reportedly a Marriott, has been approved by the city council.

Patty Hughes, CEO of the Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the announcement of the new hotel, viewing it as a positive sign for the local economy. She noted ongoing critical mineral developments north of the city as potential economic drivers, stating, “Taking a look at what the feds are investing in the critical mineral side is a huge benefit for us in Prince Albert.”

The Hyatt project follows closely on the heels of another significant announcement regarding the Prince Albert pulp mill. The Ontario-based company, BMI Group, has purchased the mill and plans to redevelop it for alternative uses. Hughes emphasized the firm’s interest in residential development, particularly in the downtown area, highlighting their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

“This will be BMI’s 12th such project and they have a good track record of success,” she stated. As new investments continue to flow into Prince Albert, local officials are optimistic about the potential for growth and diversification in the region’s economy.
