Cantac Candies Delivers Holiday Cheer by Answering 168 Letters
The team at Cantac Candies, a beloved candy store in Castlegar, successfully managed to respond to the wishes of local children this holiday season, answering a total of 168 letters addressed to Santa Claus. The store initiated a free letter drop-off and reply program that encouraged children to share their handwritten letters with Santa, creating a festive atmosphere in the community.
Organiser Amber Berukoff expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from volunteers and customers. “With the help of dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our customers through candy and supply donations, every single letter was answered,” she said. Each response from Santa included a small bag of candy, further sweetening the experience for the young letter writers.
Community Spirit Shines Bright
The initiative not only aimed to delight children but also celebrated their creativity and thoughtfulness. While some letters were selected for special recognition, Berukoff emphasized that the program was never intended to be competitive. “The goal was simply to honour the time, imagination, and care the kids put into their letters,” she explained.
The success of this program was rooted in community involvement. From the volunteers who dedicated their time to assist in the project to the customers who contributed supplies, the support was crucial. “This program exists purely because of community support — volunteers who give their time, customers who donate, and families who believe in keeping a little holiday magic alive,” Berukoff added.
As the holiday season draws to a close, the efforts of Cantac Candies have undoubtedly left a lasting impression on the children of Castlegar. The initiative fostered a sense of connection and kindness, reminding everyone of the joy that can be found in giving and receiving during this special time of year. Berukoff concluded with appreciation for all who participated, stating, “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this possible and proud to offer something that brings joy to local kids.”
