Vancouver Comedy All-Stars Bring Competitive Improv to Sidney

The acclaimed comedy troupe, The Comedy Department, is set to showcase a unique blend of humor and competition in Sidney, Canada. On October 4, 2025, the group will host the Improv Comedy Rumble at the Mary Winspear Centre. This event promises an engaging experience where three performers will compete in a series of fast-paced scenes, songs, and games, while the audience decides who emerges victorious.
According to co-founder Denise Jones, the format of the show is designed to encourage audience interaction. “It’s improv with a competitive twist,” she explained. The troupe has gained recognition for its lively performances, having recently won the Consumer Choice Award for Best Comedy Club and the 2025 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. They currently hold the top spot on TripAdvisor’s list of fun and games in Vancouver, boasting over 200 excellent reviews.
Jones highlighted the unique atmosphere of their shows, stating, “Audiences leave feeling connected and happy, relieved with laughter. Our shows aren’t passive. We actually CREATE the show together.” This collaborative spirit is a hallmark of their performances, and Jones noted that the upcoming show in Sidney will be no different.
Earlier this year, The Comedy Department entertained Sidney audiences with their production of Middle Aged Boy Band. The troupe is excited to bring a new concept to the town, emphasizing that their performances involve significant crowd work, which contributes to the fun. “That’s where half the fun happens,” Jones added.
Currently on their fall tour, the group is preparing for what Jones describes as “the great Sidney battle.” She emphasized the importance of creativity and trust among performers in an improv setting. “The only training is 20+ years of doing this night after night, and being ready to embrace whatever madness the audience throws at you. It’s magical collaboration,” she said.
Fans of improvisational comedy can expect a lively and immersive experience at the Mary Winspear Centre this October. For further details, visit thecomedydepartment.com. The team anticipates returning to the stage in 2026 with two new shows, continuing their tradition of engaging and entertaining audiences across Canada.
