Yorkville Christian captured the championship title at the 60Eight Basketball Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, on March 2, 2024, thanks to a thrilling buzzer-beater by Tray Alford. The Mustangs edged out Appleton with a final score of 77-75, marking an impressive victory in a tightly contested match.
Alford’s decisive 3-pointer not only clinched the win but also capped off a strong performance from his teammates. Jayden Riley led the scoring for Yorkville Christian with a remarkable 40 points, while Blake Wells contributed 19 points and Alford added 9 points to the scoreboard. With this win, Yorkville Christian improved its season record to 7-2.
Oswego East Triumphs in Fourth Quarter Showdown
In another thrilling matchup, Oswego East overcame Waukegan with a 68-61 victory at Hope Academy. The Wolves demonstrated resilience, outscoring their opponents 21-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the win, pushing their record to 8-2.
Dshaun Bolden was instrumental in the victory, scoring 23 points for Oswego East. He was supported by Jacsen Tucker, who added 19 points, and Mason Lockett, who contributed 14 points, including a crucial 9 points in the final quarter. The Wolves’ strong finish showcased their determination and ability to perform under pressure.
The weekend’s games highlighted the competitive spirit of high school basketball in the region, with both Yorkville Christian and Oswego East emerging as strong contenders in their respective tournaments.
