Tanker Truck Crash Closes Highway 401 in Toronto, Injuries Reported
A serious collision on Highway 401 involving a tanker truck and multiple vehicles led to the temporary closure of both directions near Avenue Road late on March 15, 2024. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency crews, as confirmed by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) through social media updates.
Initially, all lanes were shut down between Allen Road and Avenue Road while first responders assessed the situation and attended to the injured. By early the following morning, the OPP reported that the eastbound lanes had reopened, although westbound lanes remained closed as investigations continued.
As a result of the accident, one individual was transported to hospital with injuries that were classified as non-life-threatening. Authorities advised motorists to avoid the area and prepare for delays as crews worked to clear the scene.

The OPP is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that the collision involved significant impact, but details regarding the cause remain unclear. Authorities will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution and seek alternative routes until the situation is fully resolved. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining safety on one of Canada’s busiest highways.
This story remains under development, with further updates expected from the OPP as the investigation progresses.
