Salvation Army in Surrey Seeks Volunteers for Holiday Kettle Campaign
The Salvation Army in Surrey is actively recruiting volunteers for its annual Christmas kettle campaign, which begins on November 21, 2023, and runs until December 24, 2023. This initiative aims to support various community programs, with all funds raised remaining within Surrey. According to Peggy Leung, a community engagement specialist, the money will contribute to vital services such as the weekly food distribution and community church.
Volunteers will be stationed at multiple locations across Surrey, engaging with the public and encouraging donations. The organization emphasizes that “your time at the kettle will help change lives in your community, one donation at a time.” The Kettle Campaign has a long-standing history, having started in 1891 in San Francisco and now operating globally.
Those interested in volunteering should be prepared for a flexible schedule. Duties include remaining at the kettle for the duration of the shift, responding to inquiries from passersby, and working with minimal supervision. While there are no set weekly hours, volunteers may be scheduled for shifts Monday through Saturday, covering days, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and split shifts.

The community’s involvement in this campaign is crucial, as it directly impacts local residents in need. Each contribution, whether through time or donations, plays a significant role in enhancing the support available to those facing challenges in Surrey during the holiday season.
