RCMP Investigate Targeted Shooting in Trail, Seeking Witnesses
On February 7, 2024, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Trail responded to reports of gunfire directed at a residence located on Larose Street in East Trail. According to Cpl. Brett Urano of the RCMP, officers initiated an investigation which revealed that the shooting occurred earlier that morning, around 5:40 a.m.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots followed by the sound of a vehicle departing the area. At the time of the incident, residents were inside the home but evacuated shortly afterwards. Police later located the residents at a different location in Trail and confirmed that no injuries resulted from the shooting.
Investigators believe the incident was targeted and do not classify it as a random act of violence. The RCMP is actively seeking information from the public. They have requested anyone with relevant details, particularly those who may possess CCTV or dashcam footage from the Rossland Hill / Hwy 3B corridor, to come forward. The time frame of interest is between 5:15 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on February 7.
Individuals who have information are encouraged to contact the Trail and Greater District RCMP at 250-364-2566. The RCMP is particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or observed any unusual activity in the area during the specified timeframe.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of the community while determining the circumstances surrounding this alarming incident.
