Creston’s Bob Ewashen Receives Prestigious Volunteer Award
On March 6, 2026, Bob Ewashen, a resident of Creston, was recognized by the BC Senior Games Society with the prestigious Sport BC Presidents’ Award. This accolade is awarded annually to outstanding volunteers affiliated with Sport BC member organizations, celebrating their dedication and exceptional contributions that enhance their respective sports and communities.
Ewashen’s long-standing commitment to education and community service spans decades. He had a notable career as an educator and served as a school board trustee for School District 86 for 12 years. His passion for tennis led him to compete in the BC Senior Games in Kelowna in 2000, marking the beginning of his involvement with the Senior Games Society.
Years of Service and Leadership
Following his participation in the games, Ewashen took on a leadership role as the director of Zone 7 East Kootenay. His contributions included chairing the Nominating Committee and participating in the Development Committee, where he played an instrumental role in attracting new members and shaping policies for the BC Senior Games Society.
The BC Senior Games Society expressed gratitude for Ewashen’s 24 years of volunteer service, noting how his “incredible contributions” have positively impacted the lives of participants across British Columbia. His steadfast leadership and quiet determination have left a lasting mark on the community.
Ewashen has competed in various events, including tennis, cribbage, and eight-ball. His skills in the latter earned him a silver medal at the 2025 55+ BC Games held in Nanaimo. Beyond competition, he values the camaraderie and social engagement that come with being active in the community. Regularly participating at the local Rec Centre gymnasium, he maintains a commitment to physical fitness and social interaction.
A Legacy of Inspiration
Reflecting on his extensive volunteering experience, Ewashen states he has “no regrets.” His ongoing involvement continues to inspire others, reinforcing the spirit of volunteerism within his community. The recognition he has received serves not only as a personal achievement but also as a testament to the impact one individual can have through dedicated service.
Bob Ewashen’s story exemplifies the essence of volunteerism, showcasing how passion and commitment can foster community development and enhance the lives of many.
