93-Year-Old Charged Following Fatal Christmas Eve Collision
A 93-year-old man faces charges after a tragic incident on Christmas Eve in North York, Toronto, where a vehicle struck six people inside a store, resulting in one fatality. The collision occurred around 14:30 on December 24, 2022, at a plaza located at 4400 Dufferin St..
According to the Toronto police, the elderly driver was operating a Nissan Murano when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the storefront for reasons that remain unclear. A 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Emergency responders transported two women to the hospital; their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. Additionally, three other individuals received minor injuries but did not require hospitalization. The driver, along with a female passenger, also sustained minor injuries and sought medical attention.
On January 5, 2023, police charged the senior with three counts of careless driving causing bodily harm or death. These charges are yet to be tested in court. Authorities have opted not to disclose the identity of the accused, as the charges fall under the Provincial Act.
