SecuGen Launches Unity 20 USB-S Scanner for Developers
SecuGen has officially launched the Unity 20 USB-S, a compact and programmable biometric scanner designed specifically for developers and system integrators. This latest addition to its Utility line of smart fingerprint readers integrates fingerprint image capture, template extraction, and matching capabilities into a single device, enhancing ease of use and functionality.
The Unity 20 USB-S incorporates SecuGen’s MINEX-compliant biometric algorithms and features the FBI-certified U20-ASF sensor, which adheres to PIV/Mobile ID standards, ensuring high-quality imaging for a variety of applications. Its straightforward single-cable USB connection and Serial-over-USB design allow seamless integration with multiple operating systems, including Windows, Android, Linux, and macOS, without the need for proprietary drivers.
Streamlined Integration for Developers
According to Dan Riley, Vice President of Engineering at SecuGen, the Unity 20 USB-S provides developers with a portable biometric platform that reduces integration friction. He emphasizes that the Serial-over-USB feature eliminates the risks associated with custom drivers and operating system updates, creating a consistent interface across all platforms.
SecuGen has made available a range of developer tools, including a built-in Fingerprint Management System (FMS) API compatible with programming languages such as C/C++, .NET, Python, and Java. The device also comes with a comprehensive serial command set and sample code, allowing developers to easily implement biometric solutions in their projects.
The Unity 20 USB-S is particularly suited for high-security applications, which include financial self-service terminals, government workstations, industrial kiosks, healthcare systems, and retail operator authentication. Its all-in-one design facilitates robust identity verification, capable of capturing, encrypting, extracting, and matching fingerprint biometrics while securely storing templates within the device.
Advanced Features for Diverse Applications
Among its advanced features, the scanner supports auto-on finger detection and smart capture technology, which accommodates various skin conditions, whether dry or wet. It also supports biometric templates in both proprietary and standards-based formats, providing flexibility for developers to choose the best option for their needs.
SecuGen’s commitment to empowering developers is underscored by Won Lee, CEO of the company, who stated, “At SecuGen, we understand how critical it is for developers to have tools that are both powerful and easy to integrate. The Unity 20 USB-S reflects our commitment to enabling developers to innovate quickly and deliver reliable, secure biometric solutions without unnecessary complexity.”
With its innovative features and developer-friendly design, the Unity 20 USB-S is set to make a significant impact in the biometric scanning market, offering a reliable solution for businesses seeking advanced identity verification systems.
