Next Biometrics Secures $320,000 Order for FAP 30 Sensor
Next Biometrics has announced its first substantial order for the new FAP 30 Granite fingerprint sensor, securing a contract valued at 3.2 million Norwegian kroner (approximately US$320,000). This order originates from an existing Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and is set for initial delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025. The fingerprint sensors will be integrated into biometric readers aimed at enhancing government identification programs, with implementations planned across Africa and Latin America.
The deployment of these systems is expected to significantly improve law enforcement and identity verification measures within these regions. This order reflects a growing demand for advanced biometric solutions, even as Next Biometrics prepares for further financial developments.
Capital Raising Plans Amid Financial Adjustments
In conjunction with celebrating this milestone, Next Biometrics is initiating a private placement of new shares priced at NOK 4.5 (approximately $0.45) per share. The company aims to raise between NOK 15 million and 20 million (around $1.5 million to $2 million). The funds will address working capital needs and finance “general corporate purposes” to facilitate anticipated growth in the latter half of 2025.
Existing shareholders, including notable entities such as Norus AS, Valset Invest AS, HAAS AS, and Camiko AS, have committed to underwrite at least NOK 15 million of the private placement, pending usual conditions. This financial strategy comes in the wake of a challenging financial landscape for the company.
Next Biometrics reported a revenue loss of NOK 2.2 million (approximately $220,000China. Despite an adjusted revenue of NOK 4.3 million (around $430,000), a negative adjustment of NOK 6.5 million (approximately $650,000) was noted due to anticipated product returns and shifting market conditions in China. CEO Ulf Ritsvall indicated that these sales figures were affected by “uncovered irregularities in China relating to historical sales, payment terms, and order processes.”
Features and Applications of the FAP 30 Granite Sensor
The FAP 30 Granite sensor boasts a 66 percent larger sensing area compared to its predecessor, the FAP 20. According to Next Biometrics, this new sensor provides enhanced resolution, accuracy, and security, making it well-suited for high-security applications. These applications include national identification projects, elections, border control, banking, and healthcare.
With the introduction of the FAP 30 sensor just months ago, Ritsvall remarked, “This first large-scale order demonstrates the existing demand for this kind of solution.” He expressed satisfaction with the support and collaboration from an existing customer who had signed a memorandum of understanding for this product back in December 2022, even before its official launch.
The FAP 30 sensor integrates NEXT’s proprietary Active Thermal technology, which combines heat detection with 3D imaging to authenticate fingerprints. This feature enhances protection against spoofing attacks and improves liveness detection compared to traditional fingerprint systems.
Ritsvall noted, “As governments and organizations increasingly specify FAP 30 for high-security use cases, our sensors offer the accuracy, security, and convenience needed to manage strong authentication and identification at scale.” He concluded by expressing pride in supporting their long-term customer in leading the way in biometric technology advancements.
Next Biometrics continues to expand its product offerings with the addition of the FAP 30 sensor, positioning itself strategically within the growing biometric market.
