Intel Launches Core Ultra Series 3: A Leap in AI PC Technology
Intel has officially launched the Core Ultra Series 3 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, marking a significant advancement in personal computing technology. This new series introduces the first AI PC platform developed using Intel 18A technology, which the company claims is the best semiconductor manufacturing process available today.
The Core Ultra Series 3 includes a new class of processors, specifically the Core Ultra X9 and X7 models. These flagship devices will feature up to 16 CPU cores and 12 efficiency cores, along with an impressive 50 NPU TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second). According to Intel, these enhancements translate to a remarkable 60 percent improvement in multithread performance and over 77 percent faster gaming performance compared to previous models. Additionally, users can expect up to 27 hours of battery life, a substantial upgrade for mobile computing.
Intel’s performance comparisons involve the Core Ultra X 388H against the Core Ultra 9 288V, utilizing benchmarks such as Cinebench and Geomean. Notably, the company is juxtaposing its Lunar Lake V series, designed for AI applications, against the Panther Lake H series, which is targeted towards gaming and creative tasks. This distinction highlights the different focuses of each processor family, making it essential for consumers to understand their specific needs when considering these options.
In addition to enhanced CPU capabilities, the System on Chip (SoC) architecture of the Core Ultra Series 3 boasts up to 80 total TOPS, 120 GPU TOPS, and support for up to 95GB of RAM. This level of performance is particularly appealing for users engaged in demanding tasks such as video editing, 3D rendering, and artificial intelligence workloads.
Pre-orders for the initial laptops equipped with the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 will commence on January 6, 2026. Consumers can anticipate a variety of designs released throughout the first quarter of the year, with over 200 partner designs expected to adopt this new technology globally. This broad adoption underscores Intel’s commitment to advancing computing performance in both consumer and professional markets.
As the technology landscape evolves, Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 represents a forward-thinking solution, merging artificial intelligence capabilities with robust performance metrics. This launch sets a new benchmark for what users can expect from their personal computing devices in the near future.
