A recent survey has identified Australia as the country with the highest per capita use of artificial intelligence (AI) globally. With over 5 million recorded uses of AI platforms for every 100,000 residents, Australia leads the way, signifying a strong national focus on AI technologies.

The findings are part of a comprehensive study conducted by Eskimoz, which evaluated AI activity across various countries by analyzing metrics such as total visits to AI-themed websites and applications, traffic per 100,000 residents, and the frequency of visits to AI tools. By adjusting for population size, the study aimed to present a clearer picture of AI engagement without larger nations overshadowing smaller ones.

In 2025, global AI use saw a remarkable increase of 20%, illustrating a growing dependency on these technologies. The data revealed that Australians collectively utilize AI approximately 1.35 billion times each year, with nearly 2% of that traffic directed towards AI tools like chatbots and content generators.

Following closely behind, the Netherlands ranks second with just under 5 million AI interactions per capita. Although Netherlands’ total AI usage reaches around 917 million annually, AI tools constitute approximately 1.14% of its overall activity.

Canada occupies the third position, reporting an average of 4.8 million AI interactions per capita. Canadians engage with AI approximately 2 billion times each year, and a significant portion of this usage—about 2.4%—involves specialized AI tools, double the rate seen in Australia.

The United States showcases the highest overall traffic to AI platforms, with an impressive 16.4 billion annual AI interactions, outpacing any other nation. AI tools account for 20% of all AI traffic in the U.S., indicating a robust interest in these applications despite its larger population. The per capita interaction stands at 4.7 million, just below Canada.

The United Kingdom completes the top five, with a reported 3.5 million AI interactions per capita. The total annual queries for AI in the UK reach approximately 2.4 billion, with AI tools representing 3% of all visits.

Germany ranks sixth, demonstrating strong overall engagement with AI platforms, logging about 2.6 billion uses. Here, AI tools make up 3.18% of all traffic, notably higher than in Australia.

In seventh place, Spain exhibits similar AI engagement patterns as Australia, recording 1.4 billion AI interactions annually. Specialized AI tools constitute 1.77% of its overall usage, reflective of a growing reliance on AI services.

France follows in eighth, averaging 2.9 million AI interactions per capita, with a total of 1.9 billion visits to AI platforms. The French show a strong preference for AI tools, which make up 2.4% of their total activity.

Peru and Malaysia round out the list in ninth and tenth places, respectively. Peru demonstrates a unique position as the only South American country on the list, with an AI usage rate of 2.6 million per capita and total visits nearing 926 million. Malaysia, on the other hand, records 2.4 million AI interactions per capita, totaling 888 million visits annually.

This survey underscores the distinct patterns of AI engagement across nations, with Australia emerging as a significant player in the global AI landscape. As these technologies continue to evolve, the variations in usage could signal shifting trends in how societies integrate AI into everyday life.
