St. Vincent Place is gearing up for its annual Coldest Night of the Year event, scheduled for February 28, 2026. This charity walk aims to raise funds to support individuals facing hunger, hurt, and homelessness in Sault Ste. Marie. This year, the organization has set an ambitious fundraising target of $125,000, a significant increase from last year’s goal of $100,000, which was surpassed thanks to the community’s generosity.

Walkers Unite for a Common Cause

Participants in the Coldest Night of the Year can choose between two routes, either 2 km or 5 km. As they brave the winter chill, walkers will find rest stops offering warm drinks to help them recharge. The event culminates in a celebration at the finish line, where participants can come together to reflect on their collective efforts. Those who raise over $150 (or $75 for youth) will receive distinctive CNOY toques as a token of appreciation for their fundraising efforts.

St. Vincent Place has been a vital resource in the community for over 20 years, and this year marks the 14th participation in the Coldest Night of the Year event. The funds raised will support key programs such as the food bank, soup kitchen, Lunches for Learning program, and transitional residence. With a goal of mobilizing 300 walkers and 40 teams, including staff and supporters, the organization is optimistic about reaching its target.

A Nationwide Initiative

Across Canada, tens of thousands of individuals will join in solidarity for the Coldest Night of the Year, with events taking place in 200 cities and towns. This nationwide initiative not only raises crucial funds but also fosters a greater understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness during the harsh winter months. By participating, walkers gain insight into the realities of life on the streets, which can be particularly difficult during the winter.

For those interested in joining this important cause, registration is open online at cnoy.org/saultstemarie. St. Vincent Place encourages community members to come together, fundraise, and participate in this impactful event. With the support of local businesses and sponsors, such as S&T Group, the organization hopes to surpass its fundraising goal and continue to provide essential services to those in need.

The Coldest Night of the Year is more than just a fundraising event; it is a chance for the community to unite around a shared mission of compassion and support. As the date approaches, St. Vincent Place invites everyone to prepare their hats and scarves for a meaningful evening that promises both warmth and community spirit.
