Kelowna Invites Youth to Shape Community Safety Initiatives
The City of Kelowna is actively seeking the involvement of local youth in shaping community safety through the launch of a new initiative, the **Youth Safety Committee**. Targeting individuals aged **13 to 17**, this pilot project will run from **October 2025** to **June 2026**, providing a platform for young residents to voice their concerns and ideas regarding safety in their community.
This committee aims to create a safe and inclusive environment where youth can collaborate with various local agencies, including the **Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)**, fire services, bylaw enforcement, and **Emergency Health Services**. Committee members will work together to develop actionable recommendations that contribute to local safety initiatives.
Participants in the Youth Safety Committee will not only have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on their community but will also gain valuable skills in leadership and teamwork. Engaging in this project allows youth to earn up to **40 community service hours**, which can enhance their resumes. Additionally, successful participants will receive a reference letter from the City of Kelowna, supporting their future employment or volunteer pursuits.
Applications for this initiative are open until **October 15, 2025**. Interested individuals can find more information and access the application form by visiting the City’s official website at kelowna.ca/node/570226. This initiative not only aims to empower youth voices but also fosters a sense of responsibility and involvement in local governance, ultimately enhancing community safety for all residents.
The City of Kelowna encourages all eligible youth to apply and take part in this exciting opportunity to influence the future of safety in their community.
