Cameron Whitcomb Celebrates Double Win at CCMA Awards in Kelowna
At the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards on September 13, 2024, held at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia, artist Cameron Whitcomb achieved a remarkable feat by winning two prestigious awards. He was recognized as both the Fans’ Choice and the Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year, highlighting his rising prominence in the country music scene.
Whitcomb’s success was part of a night filled with accolades for various artists. Ontario’s Josh Ross also made headlines, taking home the coveted Entertainer of the Year award along with Single of the Year and Video of the Year for his hit song “Single Again.” Both Whitcomb and Ross were nominated six times each, showcasing their significant impact on the country music landscape.
Notable Winners and Awards
The CCMA Awards also celebrated other talented musicians. Owen Riegling received Album of the Year for his work titled Bruce County (From The Beginning), while Mackenzie Porter was named Female Artist of the Year. Jade Eagleson won the Male Artist of the Year award, and the James Barker Band was honored as Group or Duo of the Year. Additionally, Salebarbes was recognized as the Francophone Artist of the Year, further showcasing the diversity in Canadian country music.
This year’s event marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time Kelowna hosted both Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards. The city’s selection as the host was announced in April 2024, with Amy Jeninga, president of the CCMA, commenting on Kelowna’s unique charm and urban energy, which she believed would effectively showcase the best of Canadian country music.
With a vibrant atmosphere and a celebration of homegrown talent, the CCMA Awards served as a testament to the thriving country music scene in Canada. Whitcomb’s dual victories and the recognition of other artists reflect the growing popularity and influence of country music across the nation.
